Track your skills measures time on a fixed list of learning websites, maps that activity to ESCO skills, and shows it in the side panel. Quick Log is the toolbar popup (there is no overlay button on web pages). Optionally you can create a Track your skills account and sync the same learning history to your Skill Report at app.trackyourskills.com.
The extension does not show ads, does not track arbitrary websites, and does not assess creditworthiness.
By default, learning entries, time totals, skill progress, and settings are stored in Chrome local storage on your device. We do not use this copy as a general browsing profile. You can view it in the side panel, export it, or delete it by uninstalling the extension or clearing Chrome storage.
If you never create an account and never log a skill, we do not send your learning entries to our servers.
On listed learning platforms the extension records how long the tab is active. It uses the tab URL only to recognise the platform (for example github.com) and, for auto-log, may derive keywords from the page title and URL path locally. What we store for time tracking is the platform key plus duration — not the full URL and not the page body, images, or other website content. Time tracking itself stays on your device.
A content script runs only on app.trackyourskills.com (and local development) to connect the extension to your account. It does not run on GitHub, YouTube, or other learning sites.
When you use Quick Log or automatic logging, we send a request to our mapping API (api.trackyourskills.com, with a fallback host on Vercel) so keywords can be matched to ESCO skills. That request includes:
A related embeddings request may send the same keyword text so we can rank candidate skills. Responses are JSON for mapping — we do not load or run remote JavaScript. We do not send raw history, full URLs, or page HTML.
If you create an account from the side panel, the extension sends first name, last name, email, and password to app.trackyourskills.com to register you. The password is not stored in the extension; we may keep the email locally so the side panel knows you signed up.
If you connect the extension on the pairing page, we store a pairing token on your device. Later sync uploads your local learning entries (platform, duration, keywords, mapped skills, timestamps) to your Skill Report over HTTPS. You can disconnect; that removes the token from the extension. Account data on the web app is then governed by that product’s account deletion / settings, not only by uninstalling the extension.
If you choose Import history in the side panel, the extension reads the last 30 days of Chrome browsing history, keeps only visits to tracked learning platforms, and estimates duration from visit timestamps (Chrome does not store dwell time). Raw history URLs are not stored and are not sent to our servers. Import does not run unless you start it.
We do not sell user data. We do not use extension data to determine creditworthiness or for advertising.
The current list (can be extended for an organisation) includes: github, gitlab, replit, vscode, codespaces, overleaf, figma, canva, miro, linear, jira, trello, asana, notion, google, airtable, stackoverflow, linkedin, youtube, vimeo, medium, leetcode, udemy, w3schools, w3resource, coursera, codecademy, mdn, freecodecamp, devto, codeorg, edx, geeksforgeeks, hackerrank, javatpoint, khanacademy, masterclass, pluralsight, skillshare, treehouse, tutorialspoint, udacity, futurelearn, openstax, and selected university LMS hosts (for example ISIS / Moodle / Blackboard at Berlin universities).
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy.
